2. Moses Appel, born 01.06.1797 in Neukirchen, merchant. He married on 17.02.1835 in Martinshagen Beschen Gruenstein, born 11.11.1805 in Niedenstein, daughter of Wolf Plaut – Gruenstein and his wife Besgen, née Elias. (Demandt, a.a.O., p. 354) Moses and Beschen Appel lived in Borken Pferdetraenke No. 68. They had four children:

11. Jacob Appel, born 12.04.1838 in Borken, he died 25.10.1859 at the age of 21 years, 6

4. Sara / Sarchen Appel, she was born in 1802 or 1806. She had a illegitimate daughter:

14. Hanna Appel, born 04.12.1827, illegitimate. „Die Mutter war zu dieser Zeit nicht

verheirath. Kein Gatte hat sich zu diesem Kinde nicht angegeben, indem

derselbe sich inCassel um das Leben gebracht habe. Eingetragen im St.R.

Nr. 20 (Sterberegister Nr. 20).“

Then we have two different information. One says: Sara Appel died 07.05.1866 in Borken at the age 60 years. The other: Sara Appel married Abraham Goldschmidt from Hausen. Sara Goldschmidt died on 15.05.1874 at the age of 72 years in Borken. Sie is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Borken-Haarhausen, grave no. 194.


5. Joseph Appel, born 21.04.1808 in Storndorf, merchant, he married Beschen / Beilchen Eichengruen, born 09.04.1813 in Dillich, daughter of Isaac Eichengruen and his wife Sarchen née Heinemann. Joseph and Beschen Appel had three children:


15. Frommet Appel, born 03.04.1847 in Borken, she was a single she died on 12.02.1912 in

Borken. She is buried on the new Jewish cemetery in Borken.

He married first on 09.07.1893 Henrietta Vina Kahn, born August 1870 in Germany, daughter of Josua Kahn and his wife Emma, née Blumenthal. She emigrated in 1889 into the USA. Samuel and Henrietta Appel lived in Manhattan, NY. They had two children:

Samuel Appel became a citizen on 26.04.1902. Henrietta Appel died between 1900 and1902. In 1903 Samuel Appel moved to 1780 Madison Avenue, New York. He married a second time on 18.03.1903 in Manhattan,NY Sarah / Sadie Niedermann, born11.12.1875 in New York, daughter of Jospeh Niedermann and his wife Caroline, née Blum. Samuel and Sadie Appel lived in Manhattan. They had three children:

Isaak Appel III, born 13.10.1875 in Borken, butcher, he married on 29.06.1906 in Borken Berta Rothschild, born 23.06.1875 in Langenschwarz, Kreis Huenfeld, daughter of Moses Rothschild and his wife Isabella née Plaut. Isaak and Berta Appel lived in Borken Pferdetraenke 66 ¾. They had two daughters:


70. Erna Appel, born 04.04.1907 in Borken (Geb.-reg. 26/1907), she emigrated on 13.12.1937 to

New York.

Isaak and Berta Appel were deported on 07.09.1942 from Kassel to Theresienstadt. Isaak Appel was murdered there on 15.02.1943. (Standesamtsbuecher Borken, a.a.O.) Berta Appel survived and moved after the liberation to her daughters in New York.


34. Regine Rosa Appel, born 11.05.1884 in Borken, she was married on 02.07.1908 in Borken to Bernhard Burg, born 09.07.1880 in Laasphe, son of Josef Burg and his wife Wiedel, née Stern. Regine Rosa and Bernhard Burg had a son:


72. Julius Burg, born 08.03.1925 in Laasphe, he died 29.06.1993 in Vista, San Diego,

California, USA.

40. Laser Appel IV, born 14.07.1872 in Borken, butcher, he married on 23.06.1905 in Niedenstein Berta Adler, born 21.12.1878 in Niedenstein, daughter of Salomon Adler and his wife Rechel, née Hahn. 41. Emma Appel, born 08.07.1874 in Borken. She was married on 23.04.1895 in Borken to Calmon/Kalmann Kohlhagen, dyer, born 03.05.1869 in Hoeringhausen, son of Michael Kohlhagen and his wife Bertha, née Katzenstein. Emma and Kalmann Kohlhagen lived in Korbach, Stechbahn 18. They had two children:

Kalmann Kohlhagen died on 25.09.1926 in Korbach. Emma Kohlhagen moved on 29.06.1939 from Korbach to Kassel, Wolfhager Strasse 13. She was deported from Kassel on 07.09.1942 to Theresienstadt and murdered there on 29.09.1942.

On 10.11.1938 Siemon Frenkel was arrested and taken to Kirchhain, from there on 11.11.1938 to Kassel and Buchenwald, where he was arrested till December 1938 or January 1939. Siemon and Rosa Frenkel emigrated on 15.01.1939 into the Netherlands. They lived in Appeldorn, were arrested in Westerbork and on 30.10.1942 deported from there to Auschwitz. Siemon and Rosa Frenkel were murdered in Auschwitz on 02.11.1942. 108 a. Ruth Appel, born 20.05.1916 in Samerang/Java/Indonesia. She was sent back to Germany and lived in Hamburg. She finished school at the Maedchenschule der Deutsch-Israelitischen Gemeinde Hamburg on 21.03.1932 and made an apprentice milliner (hat maker). She emigrated to South Africa and was married there to Guenter Goslar, born 22.10.1915 in Hamburg. Ruth and Gunter Goslar had a daughter:
