2. Mendel / Menachem Kaufmann, born 29.04.1808 in Borken, butcher and merchant. He married

first on 29.04.1835 Roeschen Reischen Moses, born in February1808 daughter of Isaak Moses

and his wife Breune, nee Levi from Grossropperhausen. Mendel and Roeschen Kaufmann had a

son:


+ 5. Isaak Kaufmann, born 20.07.1836 in Borken.


Roeschen Kaufmann died on 25.04.1842 at the age of 34 years and 2 months in Borken. She is

buried in the jewish cemetery of Haarhausen, grave no. 87. Mendel Kaufmann married a second

time on 07.06.1843 in Melsungen Hannchen / Hennel Abt, born 08.06.1819 in Melsungen,

daughter of Moses Abt and his second wife Rosa, nee Katz. Mendel and Hannchen Kaufmann

had five children:

3. Liebmann Kaufmann, born 31.02.1810 in Borken, butcher. He married on 03.07.1843

Goldchen / Gelle Gruenstein, born 20.01.1815 in Niedenstein, daughter of Wolf Plaut

28.05.1846 Rebecka Koenig, born 12.04.1812 in Felsberg, daughter of Isaac and Beile Plaut

Koenig. Leib and Rebecka Kaufmann had four children:

5. Isaak Kaufmann, born 20.07.1836 in Borken, merchant. He married first on 13.02.1866 in

Kassel Fanny / Voegelchen Wertheim, born 22.07.1843 in Witzenhausen, daughter of Samuel

Wertheim and his wife Emma, nee Falkenstein. Isaak and Fanny Kaufmann had five children:

10. Liebmann / Elieser Kaufmann, born 28.05.1853 in Borken. He married on 04.01.1882 in

Lohne Hanchen / Johanna Sauer, born 24.06.1866 in Lohne, daughter of Leiser Sauer and

his wife Sueschen, nee Loewenstein. Liebmann and Hanchen Kaufmann had six children:

15. Sussmann Kaufmann, born 27.09.1848 in Borken. He married on 21.05.1875 in Fankfurt/Main

Olga Morgenstern from Singhofen, Rhineland-Palatine, daughter of Hirsch Jacob Morgenstern

and his wife Zerline, nee Gruenewald.


16. Bertha / Perle Kaufmann, born 18.06.1851 in Borken, she was married on 25.10.1881 in

Borken to Magnus Meyerstein, born 06.04.1854 in Bremke, son of Levy Meyerstein and his

wife Bienchen, nee Katz. Berta and Magnus Meyerstein moved 1913 from Bremke to

Goettingen, where he founded a cattle store (Viehhandlung). They had four children:

17. Sara Kaufmann, born 02.06.1854 in Borken. She was married on 08.01.1884 in Borken to

Jakob Stern, born 29.12.1852 in Madfeld, son of Moses Stern and his wife Eva, nee

Loewenbach. Sara and Jakob Stern lived in Borken, Todenstrasse 82 / Obere Bahnhofstrasse 82.

Sara and Jakob Stern had three children:


+ 36. Eugenia Stern, born 13.11.1884 in Borken

+ 37. Siegfried Stern, born 12.11.1886 in Borken.

+ 38. Flora Stern, born 09.07.1888 in Borken

Sara and Jakob Stern got divorced on 19.12.1896. Jakob Stern lived in Kassel. He died on

03.05.1914 in Guxhagen. „He died on the way and was buried on the jewish cemetery of

Guxhagen.“ Sara Stern moved to his son to Essen and died there on 26.03.1941.



FOURTH GENERATION :


18. Louis / Elieser Kaufmann, born 06.03.1868 in Borken. He married Louise Stauss, born

04.09.1873 in Kronberg, daughter of Bernhard Strauss and his wife Fanny, nee Hess. Louis

and Louise Kaufmann had a son:


+ 39. Max Kaufmann, born 02.09.1898 in Borken.


Louise Kaufmann died on 25.10.1901 in Borken. She is buried on the jewish cemetery of

Haarhausen, grave no. 277. Louis Kaufmann married a second time on 17.02.1903 in Gross

Gerau Minna Hirsch, born 08.11.1875 in Gross Gerau, daughter of the liqueur manufacturer

Bernhardt Hirsch and his wife Stephanie, nee Blach. Louis and Minna Kaufmann lived in

Borken. They had two daughters:


40. Grete Kaufmann, born 23.03.1905 in Borken.

41. Clara Else Kaufmann, born in February 1907 in Borken, she died 22.09.1907 in Borken.


Louis and Minna Kaufmann moved to Berlin and emigrated from there in 1940 to Rio de

Janeiro / Brazil.

19. Moritz Kaufmann, born 05.12.1869 in Borken, he married on 13.06.1904 in Gross Gerau

Clara Hirsch, born 20.07.1881 in Gross Gerau, daughter of the liqueur manufacturer

Bernhardt Hirsch and his wife Stephanie, nee Blach. Moritz and Clara Kaufmann lived in

Borken. They had a son:


42. Franz Kaufmann, born 17.03.1904 in Borken. He emigrated to Brazil in 1939.

22. Rosa Kaufmann, born 21.03.1877 in Borken. She was married to Moritz Schaumberg, born

16.09.1869 in Schweinsberg, son of Isaak Schaumberg and his wife Gutrod, nee Strauss. Rosa

and Moritz Schaumberg had two children:


+ 43. Siegmund Schaumberg, born 30.08.1898 in Schweinsberg

+ 44. Frieda Schaumberg, 28.02.1901 in Schweinsberg.


The family moved in 1901 to Kirchhain and from there on 09.06.1933 to Warburg.Rosa and

Moritz Schaumberg were deported on 31.07.1942 from Muenster to Theresienstadt. Moritz

Schaumberg was murdered there on 28.01.1943, Rosa Schaumberg was murdered there

on 30.03.1943. James Grant from Los Angelos wrote in 1974 a testimony for Moritz (Morris)

23. Jettchen Kaufmann, born 17.08.1880 in Borken. She married Simon Rosenberg born

14.06.1881 in Arys / Johannisburg / Ostpreußen. They had two sons:

23a. Erwin Rosenberg born 24.06.1914 in Berlin. Erwin married  Rosa Riess born 30.05.1919

in Pillkallen (Schloßberg) Ostpreußen.

23b. Werner Rosenberg born 23.10.1919 in Berlin.

Jettchen and Simon Rosenberg were deported from Berlin to Riga Gehtto on 19.1.1942.

Werner Rosenberg was deported from Berlin to Auschwitz on 1.3.1943.

Erwin and Rosa Rosenberg were deported from Berlin to Auschwitz on 3.3.1943.


24. Bertha Kaufmann, born 10.12.1882 in Borken. She was married on 15.10.1906 in Borken to

Daniel / David Hahn, butcher, born 04.10.1880 in Gudensberg, son of Levi Hahn and his wife

Settchen, nee Speier. Daniel / David Hahn took part in WWI. Bertha and Daniel / David Hahn

moved to Berlin. They had three children:


45. Rolf Hahn, he emigrated to Palestine and became dentist in Tel Aviv.

46. Walter Hahn, he emigrated to Palestine and became doctor in Tel Aviv.

47. Fritz Hahn, butcher and owner of a sausage factory.


Bertha Hahn died in 1930 in Berlin (9. Standesamt Berlin No. 228/30). Daniel / David Hahn

emigrated to Palestine. He died on 30.10.1945 in Tel Aviv.


26. Siegfried Kaufmann, born 30.09.1882 in Borken. He married on 10.08.1919 in Fritzlar Paula

Sauer, born 03.08.1893 in Fritzlar, daughter of Kalmann Sauer and his wife Sara, nee Gutheim.

Siegfried and Paula Kaufmann had a daughter:


+ 48. Lieselotte / Lisbeth Kaufmann, born 07.09.1921 in Fritzlar.

The family moved from Fritzlar in 1933 to Borken and from there in Luly 1940 to

Frankfurt/Main, Habsburger Allee 16. Siegfried and Paula Kaufmann were deported on

24.05.1942 from Frankfurt/Main to Izbica.


27. Adele Kaufmann, born 09.03.1884 in Borken. She was married on 21.01.1907 in Borken to

Seligmann Hamberg, merchant in Esssen, born 06.02.1876 in Breuna, son of Juda Hamberg

and his wife Dina, nee Sauer. Adele and Seligmann Hamberg had two children:

29. Ida Kaufmann, born 16.07.1887 in Borken. She was married on 15.11.1910 in Borken to the

cattle dealer Hermann Simon from Braunschweig, born 21.10.1887 in Pohl-Goens, son of

Loeb Simon and his wife Klara, nee Kugelmann.


31. Meta Kaufmann, born 28.10.1891 in Borken, she was married on 23.05.1923 in Borken to

Hugo Friedrich Moses, cattledealer from Frielendorf, born 16.09.1888 in Frielendorf, son of

Abraham Moses and his wife Amalie / Malchen, nee Stern. They emigrated on 06.07.1938 from

Hamburg into the USA.

32. Siegfried Meyerstein, born 15.06.1888 in Bremke. He married in 1919 Rosa Gans, born

11.01.1888 in Rotenburg/Fulda, daughter of Koppel Gans and his wife Hedwig, nee Rosenthal.

Siegfried and Rosa Meyerstein had two sons:

02.03.1890 in Gnesen/Posen. Hugo and Paula Meyerstein had four children:

36. Eugenia Stern, born 13.11.1884 in Borken. She was married in 1907 to Albert Heumann,

born 15.01.1874 in Beuel/Rhine. Albert Heumann had a factory for men's fashion

(Herrenwaeschefabrik) in Essen, Bachstrasse 5.Eugenia and Albert Heumann had three children:


+ 57. Lotte Heumann, born 31.08.1908 in Essen

+ 58. Alice Ruth Heumann, born 24.02.1911 in Essen

+ 59. Ernst Heumann, born 06.10.1915 in Essen.


Eugenia and Albert Heumann were arrested together with her granddaughter Edith Samson in

April in the camp Holbeckshof in Essen-Steele and on 21./22. Juli 1942 deported to

Theresienstadt.

37. Siegfried Stern, born 12.11.1886 in Borken. He married Paula Ottensoser. born 05.08.1886 in

BurgpreppachSiegfried and Paula had a daughter:


+ 60. Ruth Stern, born 27.06.1921 in Hersfeld.


Siegfried and Paula Stern owned a millinery shop. They were forced to close their business as a

result of the boycotts in the 30th and moved to Berlin, where Ruth Stern learned the trade of hat

making.While Siegfried and Paula were waiting for a trip to emigrate into the USA, Ruth Stern

escaped with a childrens' transport to Holland. Her parents could emigrate and lived in

Cincinatti, Ohio. Siegfried Stern died in December 1965 in Cincinnatti, Ohio.


38. Flora Stern, born 09.07.1888 in Borken. She was married on 18.06.1917 in Borken to Sally

Stern, born 11.08.1891 in Markoebel, son of Leopold Stern and his wife Jettchen, nee

Loebenstein. Sally Stern took part in WWI. He had a shop in Borken, Neustatdt 64 and dealed

with coal, cereals and fertiliziers. Flora and Sally Stern had two daughters:


+ 61. Herta / Hanna Stern, born 10.08.1923 in Borken

+ 62. Lotte Rebekka Stern, born 22.04.1925 in Kassel.


In 1934 the family emigrated to Palestine and lived in Hadera. Sally Stern died about 1947 in

Hadera.

Leopold Stern born 04.01.1862 in Stammheim/Wetteraun son of Samuel Stern and his wife Johanna, nèe Rosenthal. Leopold Stern was deported to Warschau on 31.01.1942 and murdered in the Shoa.


Johanna (Jettchen) Stern, née Loebenstein, born 17.09.1860 in Markoebel, daughter of Isaak Loebenstein and his wife Stte née Reinhardt. Johanna Loebenstein was married on 20.02.1888 in Markoebel to Leopold Stern. She died in Markoebel in January 1937.



FIFTH GENERATION :


39. Max Kaufmann, born 02.09.1898 in Borken. He lived in Berlin and emigrated to Belgium and

lived in Bruessel. He was arrested in Mechelen/Belgium and from there he was deported on

11.08.1942 to Auschwitz (transport II, prisoner no. 899), where he was murdered on 22.08.1942.


43. Siegmund Schaumberg, born 30.08.1898 in Schweinsberg. He married on 12.11.1926 in

Kirchhain Johanna Rapp, born 08.09.1901, daughter of Markus Rapp. Siegmund and Johanna

Schaumberg had a son:

63. Heinz Schaumberg, born 06.10.1927 in Kirchhain.


The family moved on 05.05.1933 from Kirchhain to Warburg.


44. Frieda Schaumberg, born 28.02.1901 in Schweinsberg. She was married on 09.04.1926 in

Kirchhain to Julius / Ernst Baer, born 24.06.1900, son of Adolf Baer and his wife Sophie, nee

Rothschild.


48. Lieselotte / Lisbeth Kaufmann, born 07.09.1921 in Fritzlar. She attended the Ursulinen School

in Fritzlar till 1933 when she was forced to leave the school. Then she moved with her parents

in 1933 to Borken and from there to Frankfurt/Main. On 08.05.1938 she emigrated to England.

She was married on 29.04.1941 to Arthur Charles Mills. First they lived in Stepney, London,

after their house wa bombed they moved to Luton Beds and lived there at 89 Strathmore Ave.

They have two sons. Lieselotte Mills died on 28.06.1997 in Barton le Clay, Bedfordshire. Arthur

Mills died in Luton Northhamptonshire on 02.03.1998.


49. Alfhild Hamberg, born 24.10.1907. She was married to Bernhard Beuthner, born

30.06.1901 in Breslau. Alfhild and Bernhard Beuthner emigrated into the USA. They had two

daughters. Bernhard Beuthner died on 04.06.1993 in Englewood, Bergen, New Jersey, USA,

Alfhild Beuthner died on 05.07.1995 in Bronx, N.Y.


50. Bruno Hamberg, born in 24.9.1908. He married Ellen Billingheimer. Bruno and Ellen

Hamberg emigrated into the USA. They had two daughters.

Bruno Hamberg died in Hickory,North Carolina, USA in 22.10.1959.


51. Heinz Meyerstein, born about 1920 in Goettingen. He moved in March 1938 to Munich, was

arrested from November 1938 – January 1939 in Dachau. He emigrated to the Netherlands and

lived in a Hachscharah-Camp. He came back to Germany with false identity papers as Dutch

slave worker. In March 1943 he went underground through the Netherlands, Belgium and

France to Spain and Portugal and emigrated from there in November 1944 to Palestine and lived

inTel Aviv.

52. Herbert Meyerstein, born 12.06.1922 in Goettingen. He emigrated on 20.06.1939 to the

Netherlands and lived in Deventer and Amsterdam. He was arrested in 1942 in Westerbork and

on 15.07.1942 deported from there to Auschwitz, where he was murdered on 29.08.1942.

53. Ludwig Meyerstein, born 29.06.1920 in Goettingen. From Juli 1936 to February 1937 he

lived in Berlin. On 22.09.40 he was forced to work in Bielefeld. He was sent back to

Goettingen on 20.03.1942. Shortly after he was arrested with his parents and his

brother from 26./27.03.1942 in the camp Hannover-Ahlem and from there on 31.03.1942

deported to the ghetto of Warschau. From there he was deported to Auschwitz, where he was

murdered.

54. Erich Meyerstein, born in August 1923 in Goettingen. He emigrated on 05.01.1939 to

England, where he lived as Eric Herman Marston.

55. (Hans) Georg Meyerstein, born 13.02.1928 in Goetingen. After the „Reichskristallnacht“

jewish pupils were excluded from public schools. From January 1940 Georg Meyerstein took

part together with nine other jewish pupils in private lessons organized by the jewish teacher

Heinz Junger until it was closed in April 1941. He was arrested with his parents and his brother

from 26./27.03.1942 in the camp Hannover Ahlem and on 31.03.1942 from there deported to the

ghetto of Warschau.

56. Herta (Tzila) Meyerstein, she emigrated to Palestine. She was married to N.N. Presch. They

lived in Israel.


57. Lotte Heumann, born 31.08.1908 in Essen. She was married to Alfred Samson, son of Robert

and Elli Samson. The Samsons had a shoe-shop in Essen Libecker Strasse, founded by Alfred's

grandfather Moses Samson. In 1889 Robert Samson took over the shop and made it to biggest

shoe-shop in Germany. He died before 1928 after an operation in the jewish hospital in

Frankfurt/Main. Then his widow Elli and the sons Kurt and Alfred took over the shop till 1938,

when they were forced to sell the shop for a low price.

Lotte and Alfred Samson had two children:

70. Edith Samson, born 15.04.1933 in Essen, she was deported with her grandmother to

Theresienstadt. She was murdered on 15.08.1942 in Theresienstadt.

71. John (Hans) Robert Samson, born in 1935 in Essen, he emigrated with his parents 1938 to

Austalia.


Lotte and Alfred Samson emigrated in 1938 with their son Hans Robert to Australia. Alfred

Samson died in Australia in 1956.

John (Hans) Robert Samson is married to Fredeswinda born Fumero. They live in the USA and

have two children.


58. Alice Ruth Heumann, born 24.02.1911 in Essen. She was married Erich H. Sternberg, born

12.02.1908 in Essen, son of Leopold Sternberg (born 1868 in Meppen, 1942 murdered in Maly

Trostinec) and his wife Frieda nee Kaufmann (born 1880 in Essen, died 1940 in Essen). Erich

Sternberg emigrated together with his brother-in-law Ernst Heumann in March 1939 to Cuba.

There he bought an immigration permimt for his wife Alice Ruth heumann. She came with the

ship „St Louis“, buit they were not allowed to immigrate because the gouverment of Cuda had

decided that the permitswere not valid. The „St. Louis“ staye for a week in the Harbour of

Havana, where Alice Ruth and Erich Heumann could only shout and wave to each other. In June

1939 the ship left Havana and tried to find a harbour, which would accept the refugees: Cuba,

USA,Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Dominican Republic – all

refused. In the end the ship returned to Europe. In June 1939 the passengers had to leave the

ship in Belgium, Holland, France and Great Britain. Alice Ruth Heumann had to stay in

Antwerpen until she finally got a visa for the USA in march 1940. After a year she finally was

able to meet her husband Erich Heumann again in Miami.

59. Ernst Heumann, born 06.10.1915 in Essen. He was married to Ginette Ruth born Wertheim and they had three daughters. The family emigrated into the USA. Ernst Heumann died in the USA on 19.8.1994.


60. Ruth Stern, born 27.06.1921 in Hersfeld. She emigrated to the Netherlands, where she learned

know Jesse Isak Kropveld, born 06.09.1919. After war they got married, moved in 1947 into

the USA and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ruth and Jesse Kropveld have four children (and eight

grandchildren). Jesse Kropveld died on 26.12.2004 in Cincinatti, Ohio. Ruth Kropveld died on

05.05.2011 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.


61. Herta / Hanna (Chana-Herta) Stern, born 10.08.1923 in Borken. She emigrated with her

parents and her sister in 1934 to Palestine and lived in Hadera. Herta Stern was married in 1947

to Werner Zeev Karo, born in Nakel, living in Berlin, where the Karo family had a shoe-shop

in Muellerstrasse 156. Herta and Werner Karo have two daughters. Werner Zeev Karo died in

Hadera on 14.10.1981, Hertha/Hanna Karo died in Hadera on 6.9.2015

62. Lotte Rebekka (Rivka-Lotte) Stern, born 22.04.1925 in Kassel. She emigrated with her

parents and her sister in 1934 to Palestine and lived in Hadera. Lotte Stern was married in 1947

to Richard Reuven Karo, twin-brother of Werner Zeev Karo. Richard Reuven Karo died on

24.04.1989 in Hadera. Lotte Rivka Karo died on 08.06.2003 in Hadera.


66. Karen Ruth Beuthner was born in 7.6.1937. She Married Bert Meyers. They had 3 children:
