First Generation :


1. Jacob Manus Schoenemann, born13.02.1765 in Sontra, he married Merle Davit, born 03.10.1772 in Vacha. Jacob and Merle Schoenemann had three children:


+ 2. Lucas Schoenemann, born 29.12.1802 in Sontra

+ 3. Sussmann Schoenemann, born 14.04.1804 in Sontra

+ 4. Hewa / Eva Schoenemann, born 02.09.1806 in Sontra.


Jacob Manus Schoenemann died on 21.03.1832 in Sontra at the age of 67 years, one month and 8 days, Merle Schoenemann died on 12.06.1843 at the age of 76 years in Sontra.



Second Generation :


2. Lucas Schoenemann, born 29.12.1802 in Sontra, he mrried first on 04.03.1835 in Sontra Marjana Hess, born abot 1809, daughter of Davit Hess and his wife Rebekka, née Jesaias from Bebra. Marjana Schoenemann died on 07.02.1852 in Sontra at the age of 43 years. Lucas Schoenemann married a second time on 09.02.1853 in Sontra Nanny Schwarz, 30 years old, born about 1823 in Stadt Lengsfeld, daughter of Meyer Schwarz and his wife Frommet, née Juda Jacob. Lucas Schoenemann died on 24.02.1861 in Sontra, Nanny Schoenemann died on 27.05.1894 in Sontra.


3. Sussmann (Jekutiel) Schoenemann, born 14.04.1804 in Sontra. He married on 05.06.1838 in Sontra Mirjana / Marianne / Wertheim Werthan, born in March 1814 in Rotenburg, daughter of Eisemann Werthan and his wife Beile, née Katz. Sussmann and Mirjana Schoenemann had seven children:

6. Merle / Male Schoenemann, born 06.09.1843 in Sontra, she died on

13.03.1847 in Sontra

+ 7. Isaak Schoenemann, born 26.03.1846 in Sontra

9. Beile Schoenemann, born 25.04.1851 in Sontra, she died 19.05.1851.

+ 10. Jacob Schoenemann, born 28.05.1852 in Sontra

11. Lina Schoenemann, born 07.01.1856 in Sontra, she died 01.05.1856.


Sussmann Schoenemann died on 02.09.1873 in Sontra, he is buried on the old Jewish cemetery ofSontra, grave no. 64. Mirjana / Marianne Schoenemann died on 01.02.1878 in Sontra. She is buried on the old Jewish cemetery of Sontra, grave no. 66. She lived in Sontra am Steinweg Nr. 121.

4. Hewa / Eva Schoenemann, born 02.09.1806 in Sontra, she was married on 10.07.1832 in Sontra to Hesse Lange, born 23.09.1796 in Sontra, son of Manus Lange and his wife Mindel, née Hesse from Harmuthsachsen, Hewa and Hesse Lange had three children:


12. Minchen Lange, born 15.03.1833 in Sontra

13. Jacob Lange, born 12.12.1834 in Sontra

14. Moses Lange, borm 06.09.1839 in Sontra.


Hesse Lange died on 04.07.1864 in Sontra, he is buried on the old Jewish cemetery of Sontra, grave no. 92. Hewa Lange died on 11.05.1888 at the age of 81 years in Sontra, she is buried on the old Jewish cemetery of Sontra, grave no.27.



Third Generation :


5. Simonette Schoenemann, born 21.04.1841 in Sontra, she was married on 19.06.1872 in Sontra to Jacob Meyberg from Eschwege.


7. Isaak Schoenemann, born 26.03.1846 in Sontra, he married on 17.08.1880 in Herleshausen Mathilde Heilbrunn, born 29.07.1854 in Herleshausen, daughter of Ruben Heilbrunn and his wife Giedel, née Weinstein. Isaak and Mathilde Schoenemann lived in Sontra auf dem Steinweg 121, ab 1889 Niederstadt 52. They had four children:

+ 16. Marianne Schoenemann, born 29.08.1883 in Sontra

+ 17. Robert Schoenemann, born 10.05.1886 in Sontra

+ 18. Siegfried Schoenemann, born 23.06.1889 in Sontra.


Mathilde Schoenemann celebrated her 75th birthday on 14. (?) 07.1929 in Sontra. Isaak Schoenemann died on 28.04.1929 in Sontra at the age of 83 years, one month and 2 days. Mathilde Schoenemann died on 06.09.1934 in Sontra at the age of 80 years.


8. Taeubchen Schoenemann, born 21.10.1848 in Sontra, she was married on 08.02.1876 in Sontra to Wolf Ronsheim, born 01.04.1848 in Abterode, son of Levi Ronsheim and his wife Bela(Beile), née Rothschild. Täubchen and Wolf Ronsheim lived in Witzenhausen. They had three children:


+ 19. Marianne Ronsheim, born 22.11.1879 in Witzenhausen

+ 20. Siegfried Ronsheim, born 14.04.1881 in Witzenhausen

+ 21. Amalie Ronsheim, born 21.02.1885 in Witzenhausen.

Wolf Ronsheim died on 18.10.1911 in Witzenhausen, he is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Witzenhausen, grave no. 231. Taeubchen Ronsheim died on 15.04.1935 in Witzenhausen, she is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Witzenhausen, grave no. 262.


10. Jacob Schoenemann, born 28.05.1852 in Sontra, he emigrated into the USA and lived in Baltmore. We don‘t know exately when he left Germany, possibly about 1875. He married in 1877 in Baltimore Fannie Wurtzberger. Jacob and Fannie Schoenemann had four:


22. Sylvan Schoenemann, died young.

+ 23. Ansel Schoenemann, born 1879 in Baltimore, USA

24. Harry Schoenemann

25. Miriam Schoenemann, she was married to Lennie Wertheimer.


Jacob Schoenemann founded in 1889 the clothing manufacturing company J. Schoenemann (later: J. Schoenemann, Inc.). The company specialized in pants (trouses)amd Jacob Schoenemann sometimes was called the „pants king“. He was one of the largest trouser manufatorers in the States. He died on 23.12.1910 in Baltimore. Fannie Schoenemnn died in 1931.



Fourth Generation :


16. Marianne Schoenemann, born 29.08.1883 in Sontra. She was married on 22.05.1914 in Sontra to Robert Spangenthal, merchant in Kassel, born 22.12.1886 in Spangenberg, son of Hone Levi and Perle Spangenthal. Marianne and Robert Spangenthal had two sons:


+ 26. Ludwig (Louis) Spangenthal, born 12.11.1916 in Sontra

+ 27. Kurt Spangenthal, born 11.07.1918 in Sontra.


The family moved on 25.09.1918 to Kassel, Woerthstrasse 20, Robert Spangenthal died on 01.02.1921. Marianne Spangenthal was deported on 01.06.1942 from Kassel to Sobibor and murdered there on 03.06.1942. Stolpersteine will be layed for Marianne Spangenthal and her sons in Kassel in December 2020.


17. Robert Schoenemann, born 10.05.1886 in Sontra. He was arrested in Buchenwald in November 1938, prisoner number 21857. He emigrated on 04.07.1939 to Baltimore, USA. He died in 1955.


18. Siegfried Schoenemann, born 23.06.1886 in Sontra. He died 15.05.1940 in the mental hospital Haina. (LWV-Archiv Kassel, K 13, Nr. 1940/103)



19. Marianne Ronsheim, born 22.11.1879 in Witzenhausen. She was married before 1909 to Max (Markus) Plaut, born 10.03.1876 in Frankershausen, son of Jakob Plaut and his wife Heanette, née Plaut. The family lived in Stuttgart and Zürich and came back to Witzenhausen in January 1919. Marianne Plaut died on 09.12.1936 in Goettingen. She is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Witzenhausen, grave no. 265. Max Plaut emigrated in June 1937 as widower to Baltimore, USA.


20. Siegfried Ronsheim, born 14.04.1881 in Witzenhausen. He was a single, he came back to Witzenhausen from the States in 1911. He died on 05.05.1917, he is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Witzenhausen, grave no. 236.


21. Amalie Ronsheim, born 21.02.1885 in Witzenhausen. She died on 25.06.1902 in Witzenhausen. She is buried on the Jewish cemetery of Witzenhausen, grave no. 223.


23. Ansel Schoenemann, born 1879 in Baltimore, he married on 08.03.1904 Ellen Adelsdorf, born about 1884, daughter of Joseph and Carrie Adelsdorf. Ansel and Ellen Schoenemann had a daughter:


+ 28. Josepha Schoenemann, born in 1905 in Baltimore.


When his father Jacob Schoenemann died on 23.12.1910 Ansel Schoenemann took over the company. The company was nationally known. They branched out into men‘s tailored garments (not only pants) and made clothes for various companies like Brooks Brothers. The comopany was sold several times in the 1990s.

In March 1954 Ansel and Ellen Schoenemann celebrated tha 50th Wedding Anniversery (Goldene Hochzeit).



Fifth Generation :


26. Ludwig (Louis) Spangenthal, born 12.11.1916 in Sontra. He emigrated on 16.11.1936 to Baltimore, USA. He married on 06.11.1942 Bessie Ann Sender, born 12.01.1919 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Louis and Bessie Ann Spangenthal had two children:


+ 29. Judith Marian Spangenthal

+ 30. Julian Robert Spangenthal


Bessie Ann Spangenthal died on 08.12.2006, Louis Spangenthal died on 28.12.2008.


27. Kurt Spangenthal, born 11.07.1917 in Sontra. He emigrated into the USA on 16.01.1938. He married on 14.08.1943 in Baltimore Lore Dellheim, born 17.05.1925 in Mannheim. Kurt and Lore Spangenthal had two children:


+ 31. Marylin Spangenthal

+ 32. Robert Spangenthal

Kurt Spangenthal died on 04.10.1995 at the age of 77 years in York, PA. Lore Spangenthal died on 10.10.2010 in Baltimore.


28. Josepha Schoenemann, born 1905 in Baltimore, she was married first in 1925 to Stuart M. Weiler. Josepha and Stuart M. Weiler had two daughters:


+ 33. Ellen Weiler

+ 34. Anne Weiler.


Stuart M. Weiler died in1956. Josepha Weiler Schoenemann was married a second time in 1957 to Jay Jefferson Miller, born 1807, son of Abraham and Helen Miller. Jay Jefferson Miller married first Sylvia Hartmann. Jay Jefferson and Sylvia Miller had three children:


Jay Jeffersom Miller II, he married Anne Weiler, daughter of Josepha and

Stuart M. Weiler.

Milton Miller, he married Sue.

Cynthia Miller, she was married to N.N. Rosenwald.


Josepha Miller died at the age of 92 years about 1997.



Sixth Generation :


29. Judith Marian Spangenthal, born 24.11.1953 in Baltimore. She was married to N.N. Nordin. Judith Marian and N.N. Nordin have a son :


35. Ethan Ivan Nordin


Judith (Judy) Marian Spangenthal Nordin died by cancer on 22.08.2009 in Baltimore. She is buried on Chevra Ahasvas Chesed Cemetery, Randalistown, Baltimore Country, Maryland.


30. Julian Robert Spangenthal, born 30.01.1956 in Baltimore. He married on 16.10.1988 in Baltimore Dorothy Alexandra Izsak. Julian Robert and Dorothy Spangenthal have two sons:

37. Jacob William Spangenthal


31. Marylin Spangenthal, born 01.01.1945 in Baltimore. She was married on 24.12.1967 in York, PA. to William Bowers, born 20.10.1942 in Westville, NJ. Marylin and William Bowers have two sons:
