The Ziering Family from Kalusz (Ukraine)

F I R S T G E N E R A T I O N :


1. Tzvi Khaim Ziering, he married Rivka Nussbaum, born 1877 or 1879 in Rownia/Kalusz, daughter of Leib and Sara. Khaim and Rivka Ziering lived in Kalusz. They had five children:


+ 2. Joseph Ziering, born 01.04.1888 in Kalusz

+ 3. Isaak Ziering, born 22.11.1895 in Kalusz

+ 4. Leib / Leo Ziering, born 03.12.1900 in Kalusz

+ 5. Benjamin / Benno Ziering, born 10.03.1903 in Kalusz

+ 6. Channa / Chane Ziering, born 20.04.1907 in Kalusz.


The family came in the 20th to Kassel. Rivka Ziering was murdered in the Shoah (testimonies written by her son Leo Ziering and her daughter in law Cilla Ziering).

2. Joseph Ziering, born 01.04.1888 in Kalusz, he emigrated into the USA. He married Anna Becker, born 1891, daughter of Martias Becker (born 1865). Joseph and Anna Ziering had five children:


7. Albert Ziering, born 08.12.1915 in New York. He was married and had two children. He

died on 10.08.2005.

8. Barbara / Beatrice Ziering, born 1917, married to N.N. Schwartz.

+ 10. Jerome Ziering, born 13.03.1924

+ 11. Eleonor Ziering, born 27.04.1925

Anna Ziering died on 16.02.1964, Joseph Ziering died in 18.04.1980. They have a great granddaughter, Allison Walmark Ziering.


3. Isaak Ziering, born 22.11.1895 in Kalusz, he came with his parents and his brothers to Kassel. He was a merchant and dealed together with his brothers Leib/Leo and Benjamin Ziering with clothes. They had a shop. We can find his name in the Kassel addressbooks from 1930 – 1939. He lived first Entengasse 13/1, 1933 Pferdemarkt 28/2 (Shop), 1938 Graben 68 (Shop) and Traenkepforte ½/2 (flat). Isaak Ziering married on 24.12.1926 Cilli / Zipra Frisch, born 25.06.1901 in Rozniatow, Poland. Isaak and Cilli Ziering had two sons:


+ 12. Heinz Hermann Ziering, born 11.12.1926 in Kassel

+ 13. Siegfried Ziering, born 20.03.1928 in Kassel.


On 28.08.1939 Isaak Ziering flet with his brother Benjamin Ziering to London. Cilli Ziering, who lived at least in Traenkepforte ½, was deported with her sons Heinz Hermann and Siegfried on 09.12.1941 from Kassel to Riga. They survived, By the end of the war they were moved into a prison in Fuhlsbuettel, then to Bergen Belsen and at least to a concentrationcamp in Kiel, where they were forced into slave work. In 1945 they were rescued by the Swedish Red Cross. They were brought to Sweden. Later they rejoined their father in London. In 1949 they immigrated into New York City. Isaak Ziering died 21.04.1958 in New York. Cilly Ziering died on 27.03.2002 at the age of 100 years in Beverly Hills, Los Angelos, California.


4. Leib Leo Ziering, born 03.12.1900 in Kalusz. Together with his brothers Isaak and Benjamin he had a clothes shop (Waescheggeschaeft). On 10.11.1937 he married in Kassel Zilla Spatz, born 26.02.1911 in Nordhausen, daughter of Daniel and Malka Spatz. Leib Leo and Zilla Ziering lived in Jaegerstrasse 7 and in Februar 1938 in Schillerstrasse 7. They had a daughter:


14. Jutti / Jehudit Ziering, born 31.03.1939 in Kassel.


Leib Leo Ziering could escape. After war he lived im Ramle/Palestine and in Tel Aviv. In 1958 he came back to Kassel. He lived in Brasselsbergstrasse, Steinbruchweg (Bettenhausen), Friedrichstrasse 46 and Hohenkirchener Strasse 34. In 1963 he moved to Frankfurt/Main and lived there in a Jewish Senior Home. He wrote testimonies for members of his family. He demanded compensation for himself, his wife Zilla Ziering and his daughter Jutti Ziering.

Arie Leo Ziering dies on 15.11.1973 in Sprendlingen.

Zilla Ziering was deported together with her daughter Jutti Ziering on 09.12.1941 from Kassel to Riga and murdered there. Last sign of life is from December 1943. On 14.10.2014 Stolpersteine were laid in Kassel Schillerstrasse 7 for Zilla and Jutti Ziering.


5. Benjamin / Benno Ziering, born 10.03.1903 in Kalusz. He came together with his parents and his brothers Isaak and Leib Leo Ziering to Kassel. In 1929 he lived in Graben 57 E and had a shop for sculptures (Bildhauergeschaeft). Later he dealed with pictures and he had a shop in Mittelgasse 33 H (1930), in Entengasse 29 E (1931), Untere Koenigstrasse 66/3 (1932) and Pferdemarkt 28/2 (from 1933-1936). Benjamin Ziering emigrated on 28.08.1938 to London, later into the States. He died 01.10.1966


6. Channa Chane Anna Ziering, born 20.04.1907 in Kalusz. She was married on 03.12.1929 in Kassel to Abraham Kott, born 11.04.1899 in Sulejow/Pietrkow, Polen. Abraham Kott emigrated on 01.09.1939 to England. Channa Anna Kott was deported on 01.06.1942 from Kassel to Sobibor and murdered there on 03.06.1942.

9. Paul Ziering, born 06.04.1921. He maried Muriel / Micki. Paul M. and Muriel Ziering had three sons. Paul M. Ziering died 09.07.2008, Muriel Ziering died 21.07.2016 in Mewark, NJ.


10. Jerome / Jerry Ziering, born 13.03.1924. He married Sondra / Sandy Nudelman, born 1931 in East Orange, NJ. Jerome and Sondra had three children. Sondra Ziering died 27.04.2015, Jerome Ziering died 04.12.2015 in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York.


11. Eleonor Ziering, born 27.04.1925. She was married to Michael Metsky. Eleonor and Michael Metsky had two children. Eleonor Metzky died 26.01.2006.


12. Heinz Hermann Ziering, born 11.12.1926 in Kassel. He was deported with his mother Cilli Ziering and his brother Siegfried Zierig on 09.12.1941 from Kassel to Riga. They survived. They rejoined their father in London and immigrated into the USA. Heinz Hermann Ziering married Lea Ternbach, born 18.05.1935 in Sarajevo, daughter of Joseph Ternbach and his wife Mathilda. Heinz Hermann and Lea Ziering have three children:

16. Mark Ziering, he married Debbie Trotsky

17. Miriam / Mia Ziering


Heinz Hermann Ziering died on 11.11.2005 at the age of 79 years in Jerusalem. Lea Ziering died 14.09.2008 at the age of 73 in New Rochelle, New York.


13. Siegfried Ziering, born 20.03.1928 in Kassel. He, his mother and his brother were deported on 09.12.1941 from Kassel to Riga. They survived the camp, rejoined their father in London and immigrated into the USA in 1949. Siegfried Ziering married on 05.06.1953 in New York Marilyn Brisman. Siegfried and Marilyn Ziering have four children. Siegfried Ziering died on 12.11.2000.
